Mobility Scooters and Wheelchairs for Everyday Living

Being able to remain independent in your own home is one of the primary goals for people with limited mobility. Thankfully, there are dozens of wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and electric wheelchairs that are specifically designed for narrow, indoor environments.

If you’ll typically be using your mobility device to get around your own house or apartment, an indoor scooter, wheelchair, or walking aid may be just what you need. Unlike outdoor mobility devices – which prioritize speed and durability – the best indoor mobility devices will be highly maneuverable and have a smaller turning radius.

Scootaround carries a wide range of mobility devices for indoor use – from narrow indoor rollators and wheelchairs, to intelligent power wheelchairs and mobility scooters with ultra-tight turning radiuses. Interested in learning more about our mobility options for everyday living? Browse online, call 1-844-664-7467, or email [email protected]. We look forward to helping you find the perfect indoor scooter or wheelchair for your needs!

Choosing the right mobility device for your in-home needs is always a complex process. What type of mobility aid will work best with your lifestyle – a walker, rollator, wheelchair, or scooter? Which areas of your home or apartment are causing you the most trouble? Will you be using the device outdoors as well?

Here are (in our opinion) the four most important factors to take into consideration when purchasing a mobility device for everyday living:

  • Maneuverability: Indoor spaces can be cramped and difficult to navigate, so you’ll need a highly maneuverable mobility device to ensure you remain independent in your home. Walkers, rollators, and manual wheelchairs are maneuverable by nature and are a great option for people who still have some mobility in their legs or arms. Users with more severe mobility limitations should look for an electric wheelchair or scooter with a small turning radius, such as one of the innovative products from WHILL.

  • Width: While exterior doorways usually have a width between 32” and 36”, it’s common for interior doorways to have a width of 28” or less, especially in older buildings. Check the width of any potential mobility device prior to purchase. Generally, the narrower the device, the easier it will be to use indoors.

  • Storage: You don’t want your mobility device to be taking up valuable floor space when you’re not using it. Consider purchasing a device that either folds, collapses, or disassembles. This will allow you to store it in a closet or corner of the room when not in use.

  • Versatility: Will you solely be using the mobility device indoors, or will you be using it outdoors as well? Many modern mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs are designed to be used in both settings, featuring a balance of superior maneuverability and traction. Check out these mobility products for active lifestyles for more info.

Scootaround sells a variety of mobility devices that are designed for everyday use, including popular indoor scooters and home wheelchairs from manufacturers such as WHILL, Pride Mobility, Drive Medical, Golden Technologies, and more!

  1. How much does an indoor wheelchair or indoor scooter cost?

A standard home wheelchair from Scootaround will cost between $400 and $500, while less expensive options can cost as little as $300 or less. Indoor scooters and electric wheelchairs are significantly more expensive, with most models ranging from $1800 to $5500 depending on the features.

  2. Where can I buy a mobility device for everyday living?

Scootaround carries the best selection of mobility devices for everyday use, including scooters, powerchairs, and small wheelchairs for the indoors. Shop online at scootaroundstore.ca or give our sales team a call toll-free at 1-844-664-7467. We look forward to helping you!
